Ceremony at the Polish Embassy in Rome to mark the end of the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group
15.06.2021
A concert of international revue theatre and opera hits and the premiere of a film featuring diplomats from the V4 embassies in Rome, recorded in Rome’s historic Antico Caffé Greco, were the main attractions of a reception organised by the Polish Embassy in Rome to mark the end of the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group.
The special evening in the gardens surrounding the Polish diplomatic mission in Rome was attended by representatives of Italy’s world of politics, diplomacy and culture. The audience had the opportunity to listen to a concert of international revue theatre and opera hits performed by Polish tenor Iwo Orłowski, and to watch an interesting film by the Polish Embassy in Rome featuring diplomats from the V4 embassies in Rome, recorded in Rome’s historic Antico Caffé Greco.
In the film, the diplomats talked about the historical and cultural links between Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy, referring to the memorabilia stored in the historic setting. The project provided an opportunity to popularise V4 countries in many aspects, promoting their image as home of great literature and art, as well as to preserve the memorabilia of poets, writers, musicians, artists, intellectuals and politicians from the Visegrad countries stored in Antico Caffé Greco, including Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki and Czesław Miłosz from Poland. The film was accompanied by a presentation of excerpts from Miłosz’s poetry and Norwid’s prose recited by Italian actor Antonio Catania, who played one of the leading roles in Dolce Fine Giornata, a movie which is currently successfully screened in Italy and also features Krystyna Janda and Kasia Smutniak.
During the reception, guests were also presented with a commemorative brochure summarising the Polish Presidency of the V4 and related projects implemented by the Polish Embassy in Rome, including contributions from the ambassadors of the Visegrad countries in Rome.
