Undersecretary of State for Security, Asia, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East Policy
Maciej Lang graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at Warsaw University in 1993. In 2016, he obtained his doctoral degree at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Warsaw University.
In 1993-1997, he worked at the Department for Migration and Refugees at the Ministry of the Interior. In 1997, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was posted as counsellor at the Polish Embassy in Almaty in 1997-2003. After returning to Poland, he served as adviser to the minister at the MFA’s Department of Europe and Eastern Policy Department. In April 2006, he was appointed chargé d’affaires at the Polish Embassy in Greece. In 2007-2009, he worked as ambassador in Ashgabat, and between August 2009 and June 2012, he was in charge of the Polish diplomatic mission in Kabul. In 2014-2015, he headed a field team of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine. In August 2015, he was appointed Polish Ambassador to Kazakhstan, and in November 2015, he was also nominated as Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. From October 2016 to November 2018, he served as Polish Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey.
He authored several publications and analyses on Central Asia and the Middle East.
In 2012, he was awarded Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
