MFA statement on Georgia's “foreign influence transparency” law

14.05.2024

Poland expresses deep disappointment about the adoption of the law on “transparency of foreign influence” by Georgia's parliament. The act is in breach of the European Union values and makes Georgia drift away from the EU.

It is unacceptable to use force against protesters or physical violence against those demonstrating or criticising publicly the foreign influence legislation. Since Tbilisi regained independence, Poland has always supported Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. At the same time, we recognise the European aspirations of the Georgian society and its determination to defend citizens' rights and freedoms. We are ready to further support it on its path towards a better European future. We call on Georgia's authorities to withdraw the legislation and maintain their commitment to remaining on track for full EU integration and to continue the necessary reforms.
