Industrial production in January 2021 – comments by Deputy Minister Robert Tomanek

Industry is growing for the eighth month in a row. After elimination of seasonal factors, industrial sales increased by 5.7% y/y and 1.7% m/m.

The increase in sold production (at constant prices) compared to January 2020 was recorded in 15 (out of the 34) industrial sectors, including the manufacture of electrical equipment (by 31.3%), waste management – recovery of raw materials (12.5%), manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products (by 8.6%), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (by 5.9%), extraction of hard coal and lignite (by 4.9%), manufacture of metals (by 4.6%), as well as chemicals and chemical products (by 4.3%).

In turn, 19 sectors of industry reported decrease in production during that period. The largest one was recorded in coke and refined petroleum products (by 20.4%), beverages (by 11.3%), pharmaceutical products (by 6.1%), other transport equipment (by 5.7%), automotive vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (by 3.5%).
