The Polish side was represented by Andrzej Adamczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure. The meeting was also attended by the Slovak Minister of Transport and Construction Andrej Doležal, Deputy Transport Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Sechter and Deputy State Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Innovation of Hungary Péther Tóth.

The topics discussed included joint major infrastructure projects such as Via Carpatia, High Speed Rail and the Oder-Elbe-Danube inland water corridor.

“The cooperation of the Visegrad Group countries in the field of transport is crucial for the development of our region. We must make up for the differences which still exist between the transport networks in our countries and those of Western Europe,” said Minister Adamczyk.

Mr Doležal stressed that north-south road and rail connections are crucial for Slovakia.

“We talked very specifically about the status of preparations and construction of roads such as D3, which connects with the Polish S1, and R4, which is the Slovak section of Via Carpatia. We know that we need to accelerate the preparatory processes for road construction in our country,” said the head of the Slovak Ministry of Transport and Construction.

“In my view, cooperation between our countries in the field of transport is clearly visible. We connect roads, plan high-speed railways and measures to increase the efficiency of navigation on the Oder. We are quickly moving from plans to implementation, which makes everyone optimistic,” said Czech Deputy Transport Minister Jan Sechter.

Andrzej Adamczyk symbolically handed over the Presidency of the Visegrad Group to Hungary.

“Hungary will complete its section of the Via Carpatia transport route already this year. We are convinced that all our countries can benefit from the development of transport cooperation, which is why I would like to declare now that the Hungarian Presidency will be determined to pursue its goals,” said Péther Tóth, Deputy State Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Innovation of Hungary.
