23.05.2023

Conference on successful environmental practice within the framework of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) was held in Malmö under the Swedish presidency of the Council of the EU and hosted by the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure and the Swedish CAP Network.

Konferens 23.05.2023

The main theme for the conference was to exchange experience and solutions for how an increased environmental and climate ambition of the CAP, as well as animal welfare, can be designed and contribute to a sustainable food chain. During study visits to farms, breakout sessions and networking activities participants shared examples and discussed key issues relating to the implementation of the so-called green architecture of the CAP, synergies between interventions and CAP’s contribution to European Green Deal.

The meeting was attended by Managing Authorities, Paying Agencies, NGOs, representatives from National CAP Networks and other relevant stakeholders involved in the implementation of environmental and climate interventions as well as animal welfare of the CAP.

ARMA was represented by Joanna Gierulska, President of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture, accompanied by Emilia Godlewska, Deputy Director of the Analysis and Reporting Department.

The topics of the first session of the Conference focused on the design of interventions in the CAP, especially ecoschemes. It was a good opportunity to discuss  how and why a specific design was chosen and developed as well as how the design can be motivated to achieve environmental, climate and animal welfare objectives of the CAP and the Green Deal.

During the second session, a discussed was held on how synergies and combinations of different actions and interventions in the CAP as well as national initiatives can increase the quality of performance and contribute to a sustainable food chain, and also how we can combine an increased ambition with simplification for example ambitious interventions.
