Paintings of Polish soldiers-artists at the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria in a new splendor

Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Cairo from 27.07.-10.08.2021, together with the team of the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria led by director Ali Said, coordinated the conservation project concerning the artistic work of Polish artists-soldiers serving in the Carpathian Rifle Brigade of General Stanisław Kopański and in the 2nd Corps of General Władysław Anders who lived in Alexandria in 1940-1943 and created and exhibited their works in Cairo and Alexandria.

The conservation works were commissioned by the Embassy and carried out by the outstanding Polish experts, Mrs. Dorota Ignatowicz-Woźniakowska – the main conservator and head of the Conservation Department of the National Museum in Warsaw, and Mrs. Dorota Nowak – the head of the paper conservation studio at the National Museum in Warsaw. The authors of the paintings include such artists as Józef Jarema, Edward Matuszczak, Jerzy Młodnicki and Konrad Józef Zamorski. The vernissage and exhibition of restored paintings is planned for the spring of 2022. The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sports of the Republic of Poland and carried out in close cooperation with the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria.
