Presentation of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland

During a prestigious celebration held at the Poland Embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiques Khaled El Enani and renewed Egyptian Egyptologist Zahi Hawass have been awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

The Poland Ambassador to Cairo Michał Łabenda praised Enani’s and Hawass’ archeological efforts, in addition to enhancing the mutual cooperation between Egypt and Poland on archaeological and touristic levels referring to the deep cooperation between Egypt and Poland. Ambassador said “It is necessary to underline that the honouring of Minister El-Enany and Hawass by Andrzej Duda, president of the Republic of Poland, must also be presented in a broader historical perspective. Given the long-lasting tradition of the bonds between Poles and Egyptians, we express the respect for Egyptian history and culture, which added to the value of our friendly relations".

In his speech, Dr. Khaled El-Enany expressed, his happiness for being awarded the Order of Merit from Poland. He added that Poland has always been a partner for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the fields of archeology and Tourism. Enany said that Egypt and Poland have always had strong relations, with Egypt being one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Poland in 1927. “Poland has always been our partner in the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the fields of archaeology and Tourism. Poland was one of the first countries I visited after the resumption of international flights last August. I had fruitful meetings with Polish authorities and colleagues in the fields of tourism and archaeology,” he said.

Enany added that Poland is among Egypt’s top 10 ranking source markets, where Egypt received over 400,000 Polish tourists in 2019. He added that after international flights were resumed after the halt period caused by COVID-19, Poland placed Egypt in the green travel zone and flights resumed to Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada and Marsa Allam in Septmeber. Enany concluded his speech by thanking the government and people of Poland.

In his speech, Dr. Zahi Hawass referred to the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of archaeology and the training of archaeologists.
