The Visegrad Group Concerts
16.11.2020
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Cairo is proud to present the latest project - "The Visegrad Suite". It is a series of four online concerts with Polish, Hungarian, Slovak and Czech music inspired by folk art.
Each of the four parts shows, in a modern representation, the folkloric roots of the countries of the Visegrad Group. The suite is as a symbol representing both the diversity of the group and the universal unity of the V4 countries.
The idea of the concerts is connected to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Visegrad cooperation.
"Slovensko" is the first of the four parts of the composition. The piece is based on a paraphrase of the traditional Slovak folk melody " Verbovačka", which refers to the work of one of the most significant Slovak composers, Eugen Suchoň.
The next three parts of the "Visegrad Suite" will be published on our website and on social media every two weeks.
The project was prepared and implemented by the OdeonX ensemble founded by two musicians who have performed with each other since 2009: pianist Agnieszka Haase-Rendchen and Piotr "Cufal" Zaufal, a bassist, arranger and composer. The authors of the arrangements of the "Visegrad Suite" are both Piotr "Cufal" Zaufal and the guitarist of the band Daniel Popiałkiewicz. Robert Jurowicz on percussion and the wind section: Artur Aleksander Motyka on saxophone, Aleksander Knura on a trumpet and Kamil Wolner on a trombone also contribute to the characteristic sound of the performances.
