Awarded students attended a courtesy meeting with Ambassador Przemysław Bobak at the Embassy of Poland in Addis Ababa on 30.09.2021.

“My warm congratulations! Your achievement is the more impressive, since this year there were over 450 Ethiopian candidates, nearly six times more than even two years ago.“ said Amb. Bobak, addressing the winners. “We see the scholarship as an investment in the brightest minds in Ethiopia who will contribute to Ethiopia’s development. I hope you will the ones to build bridges between Poland and Ethiopia over the next decades.”

Studying in Poland – both scholarship and self-funded – became very popular among Ethiopian students in the last few years, and the number of Ethiopians studying in Poland has exceeded 1,500. The Embassy runs a dedicated Telegram channel “Study in Poland! Ethiopia”, a useful tool for all interested.

The Banach Scholarship Programme covers the cost of second-degree studies in Poland, in English or in Polish language, at the most prestigious state-run universities. The scholars also receive monthly living allowance. The eligible fields of study are: engineering and technical sciences, agricultural sciences, exact and natural sciences.

The Programme is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, and is funded by Polish Aid.

This year, 260 applications from almost 30 countries were selected from nearly 2,000 submissions. The largest groups of beneficiaries are representatives of Ethiopia (21 persons), followed by Nigeria (20 persons), and Ukraine (19 persons). The universities most often chosen by Banach scholarship winners are Warsaw University of Technology, the University of Warsaw, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, the University of Wrocław, and Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
