Session: Be the change. HEU Clusters and missions – Europe's response to global challenges

Missions in Horizon Europe – what that really means?

Five EU Missions are commitments to solve some of the greatest challenges facing our world like fighting cancer, adapting to climate change, protecting our oceans, living in greener cities, and ensuring soil health and food.

Each mission will operate as a portfolio of actions – such as research projects, policy measures or even legislative initiatives - to achieve a measurable goal that could not be achieved through individual actions. Actions will be carried out across disciplines, and intended to achieve a bold and inspirational and measurable goal within a set timeframe, with impact for society and policy making as well as relevance for a significant part of the European population and wide range of European citizens.

They are an integral part of the Horizon Europe framework programme beginning in 2021. Specific missions will be programmed within the Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness pillar (drawing on inputs from other pillars). Currently, their structure and portfolio of activities are under preparation. Follow our website kpk.gov.pl and social media to stay up-to-date and find opportunities to participate EU Missions over the coming years.

Session: European Partnerships

European Partnerships bring the European Commission and private and/or public partners together to address global challenges and industrial modernisation through concerted R&I effort with the Member States, private sector, foundations and other stakeholders. They are a key implementation tool of Horizon Europe, and contribute significantly to achieving the EU’s political priorities. They help also to avoid the duplication of investments and contribute to reducing the fragmentation of the research and innovation landscape in the EU.

Depending on the type of the partnership – European Partnerships will implement their Strategic Research and Innovation Agendas (SRIA) - either as part of calls in individual clusters or as part of separate Work Programmes.

Based on Article 2 of the Horizon Europe regulation – partners can include industry, universities, research organisations, bodies with a public service mission at local, regional, national or international level or civil society organisations including foundations and NGOs. Any such organisation, which is willing to commit to the partnership can discuss joining the partnership with the “lead entity”. The contacts of the lead entities, which prepare partnerships, and a detailed description of the partners needed to achieve the common vision of each partnerships, are listed in their public proposal which can be found here.

Official time schedule and all the details concerning HE calls are published on our website, as well as on the EC’s website.

Please note that the majority of calls will be displayed in May, after the official establishment of Horizon Europe programme. For the moment, you may find only information concerning ERC, EIC and calls related to COVID-19 variants.
