Ewa Surma(GUGiK) presentation during EuroGeographics – General Assembly 2022 (EGGA)

This year’s meeting took place on May 15-17, 2022 in hybrid form under the motto “Reconnection and Ambition” in Sarajevo.

Representing the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography(GUGiK) Ewa Surma, Director of the Department of Strategy, International Cooperation and Public Information participated in the panel discussion on “Disruptions, Reconnection and Ambition – what does it mean in the context of the NMCAs?” She spoke about how GUGiK operated during the pandemic. In the field of land surveying, there have been many positive developments, such as the acceleration of digitalisation and the use of new technologies, legislative changes, including the reduction of unnecessary documents and the introduction of an IT obligation.

During the pandemic, GUGiK organised numerous video conferences and training sessions (POWER and Twinning with the Republic of Moldova) to use the available data at www.geoportal.gov.pl. Director Ewa Surma pointed to the continuing need for education and capacity building in SDI and the public use of the geoportal.

In addition, the pandemic period has had a positive impact on the development and use of the online services provided by GUGIK. By amending legislation and releasing a large number of spatial data in 2020, they have been made available to both the public and private sectors.

EuroGeographics is a not-for-profit organisation of European National Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registration Authorities. The Association representing more than 60 organisations from 46 countries.

On the Polish side, the member of EuroGeographics is the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography. GUGiK representatives actively participate in initiatives and projects organized by the Association.
