Meeting of the Spatial Information Infrastructure Council
15.10.2026
On October 14, 2026, at the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography (GUGiK), another meeting of the Spatial Information Infrastructure Council was held, chaired by its president, Andrzej Żylis.
The meeting began with a presentation by Dr. Anna Michalik, Deputy Director of the Spatial Planning Department at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MRiT), who discussed, among other things, issues related to spatial planning, including, in particular, the principles of GeoPrawo and the Urban Planning Registry. Director Michalik spoke about the benefits of the Urban Planning Registry: free access, validation of spatial data, data security in the event of a failure, and a lasting reduction in administrative costs to allow officials to focus on substantive work. The overarching goal of the registry is to ensure that the data is consistent and complete. It is worth noting that the Urban Planning Registry is one of the leading solutions on a European scale. Currently, the team from the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MRiT) is focused on disseminating knowledge about the registry through numerous training materials, such as instructional videos and brochures available on a dedicated website. At the end of her presentation, the MRiT representative noted that further development of the registry is planned.
During the discussion, members of the IIP Council emphasized that the Urban Planning Registry represents a major milestone in digitization, required perseverance, and that the method of implementing the registry in small steps has proven effective.
The second item on the meeting’s agenda was a presentation by Ewa Surma, Director of the Department of Strategy and International Cooperation at GUGiK, providing an update on the European Commission’s ongoing work regarding amendments to the INSPIRE Directive.
The next meeting is scheduled for December 2026.
