Second study visit as part of the project "Twinning for Moldova"

Representative of the Moldavian Embassy in Poland Gheorghe Soltan, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Wojciech Gołębiowski with representatives of GUGiK and a delegation from Moldova.

On 17 – 21 October the second study visit of the participants of the twinning project for the Republic of Moldova: "Improving Spatial Data Services in the Republic of Moldova following EU standards" took place at the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography (GUGiK). The project is implemented by a consortium of Croatia, the Netherlands and Poland.

On behalf of the acting Surveyor General of Poland Alicja Kulka, Director of the Department of Strategy, International Cooperation and Public Information, Ewa Surma and employees of GUGiK presented issues related to the use of spatial data infrastructure (SDI). Moreover, methods of acquiring vector and raster data as well as solutions for creating modern web services were presented on the example of the www.geoportal.gov.pl. Moldavians also learned about the methodology of obtaining and verifying spatial data.

According to the program of the visit, the guests also learned about the SDI activities of other institutions in our country: the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the Municipality Center of Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation of the City of Warsaw.

The summary session was attended by the representative of the Republic of Moldavian Embassy in Poland, Gheorghe Soltan, and the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wojciech Gołębiowski.

The visit was aimed at getting to know the specifics of the functioning of the spatial information infrastructure in Poland, from which Moldavians will draw inspiration to further develop their SDI.
