XXVII FIG Congress in Warsaw

On September 11 – 15 in Warsaw, and for the first time in Poland, the XXVII FIG Congress - the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG - fr. Fédération Internationale des Géomètres) was held. The event was organized by the Association of Polish Surveyors, and the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography was a supporting institution.

The opening ceremony was attended by acting Surveyor General of Poland Alicja Kulka, who introduced the participants to the most important activities of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography(GUGiK).

During the FIG Congress, representatives of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography had the opportunity to present:

  • As part of the technical seminar "Reference Frames in Practice Seminar and IGS Practical Training" Katarzyna Kalinczuk-Stanałowska from the Branch of Geodesy and Reference Frames Systems of GUGiK gave two presentations: "Introduction to vertical reference system", covering the subject of creating reference systems of height and "Case study of Poland ”, which introduced the workshop participants to the implementation of reference systems in Poland.
  • On September 12, the Director of the Department of Strategy, International Cooperation and Public Information of GUGiK, Ewa Surma participated in the discussion panel: "Geospatial excellence for a better living - digitalisation and modern surveying and cadastre in a post – Covid19 era". The presentation entitled "The Activities of GUGIK During the Pandemic" covered the issues of the functioning of GUGiK during the pandemic.
  • During the next panel: "Framework for Effective Land Administration - NMCA Good Practices and Further Developments" Sanja Zekušić from Croatia presented the results of the twinning project with Moldova in her speech entitled "Example of Cooperation in EU Funded Project on Improving Spatial Data Services in the Republic of Moldova ”, co-authored by Director Ewa Surma.
  • Director of the Department of Geodesy, Cartography and Geographic Information Systems of GUGiK, Anna Bober, discussed the subject of spatial data acquisition and processing in the speech: “Tasks and Challenges of the National Mapping Agency of Poland in the Field of Data Acquisition”.
  • On September 13, during the panel "Open Geospatial Data and Crowdsourcing", Director Anna Bober also gave a presentation on "Automatic production of topographic maps" discussing pilot projects for creating tools for the automatic generation of topographic maps in 1: 10,000 and 1 scales: 25,000.

The next event organized by FIG - "FIG Working Week 2024" under the slogan: "Building Resilient Environment: Surveyors Innovating Fit for Future Societies" will be held in Ghana in 2024.
