His main goal was to attend the 5th Polish-Indonesian political consultations. During the meeting, the Indonesian side was represented by Umar Hadi, Director General for American and European Affairs at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The talks included all important bilateral issues. Besides political cooperation, the participants discussed current economic relations, including investments, access to local market for the agri-food products, and the energy industry. The diplomats also discussed a wide range of topics on technological cooperation, particularly IT and green technologies, as well as educational and cultural cooperation, and personal exchange.

They shared views on international developments, particularly Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its global impact. Minister Gerwel also took part in a ceremonial handing over of an electric vehicle charging station manufactured by Polish company Ekoenergetyka, a gift from our MFA to Indonesia.

During his visit, Minister Gerwel talked with the Secretary of Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ayodhia Kalake. In the country’s Parliament, he met with Chairman of Interparliamentary Friendship Groups Fadli Zon and Chairwoman of Commission on Defense and Foreign Affairs Meutya Hafid.

The Polish official also visited Jakarta’s Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN to talk to its Deputy Secretary-General Michael Tene.

While in Indonesia, Minister Gerwel inaugurated the “Poland-Indonesia Trade and Investment Forum; ASEAN Perspective” co-organised by Polish Investment and Trade Agency’s Foreign Trade Office in Jakarta and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), which was attended by Polish companies selected by the Ministry of Climate and Environment under the GreenEvo programme.

Minster Gerwel also held a lecture on Polish foreign policy at the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), an Indonesian think-tank.

During special ceremony at the Polish Ambassador’s residence, Minister Gerwel awarded the Gold Cross of Merit to Poland’s Honorary Consul in Surabaya Mergonoto Soedomo.
