Polish Contemporary Textile Art And Batik (POLA)

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Jakarta is pleased to inform that the Polish Contemporary Textile Art And Batik (POLA) exhibition will be held at the National Museum in Jakarta from October 4th to October 30th 2022.

The exhibition will showcase 60 works by Polish well known artists. The word "POLA" in Indonesian means "pattern" and in the context of the exhibition refers to the diversity in Polish artists' approach to textile art.

The exhibition will have a multimedia character and will be enriched with photos and facts about the history of some Polish traditional textile techniques and the city of Lodz as a Polish textile centre. Some works will be accompanied by additional objects, such as authentic cards stamped on more than 150-year-old jacquard looms owned by the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz and photographs of the production process of two original jacquards. The exhibition also presents selected elements of Polish culture, history and art. Some of the works touch upon themes of Polish history, including World War II, while others depict prominent figures of Polish culture, art and politics.

The main organizer and curator of the exhibition is Dr Joanna Waclawek is art historian and batik art expert with many years of experience in Indonesia. Honorary patrons of the exhibition include the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Indonesia, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Institute of World Art Studies and the former Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz Prof. Jolanta Rudzka-Habisiak.
