Poland in Iraq

The development project, implemented between September 1 and December 31, 2025, was implemented in the city of Mosul in northern Iraq. 

The project was aimed exclusively at women who, for many different reasons, mainly due to ongoing armed conflicts, were not covered by the general education system, which consequently led to limited opportunities for full participation in social or professional life.
In summer of 2025, TDH opened the center of literacy and numeracy in northern part of Iraq. More than 200 women registered instantly to benefit from educational activities offered through the project

THD project uses the same curriculum as the Ministry of Education, which focuses on foundational levels, including letter recognition, pronunciation, reading, writing, Arabic language skills, and basic mathematics. When the women completed these classes there were able to take the governmental test, which can recognize them as primary school graduates.

What is also important as a part of the implementation of the Literacy and Numeracy Project activities, several awareness sessions targeting women and girls were conducted during the period each session was chosen according to the community needs. The awareness sessions covered various topics related to child rights, childcare, mental and physical health, as well as combating violence against women and girls, and addressing cyber violence and digital harassment. 

These awareness sessions significantly contributed to increasing participants’ knowledge and awareness of their rights and responsibilities, particularly regarding child protection and violence prevention. The activities align with ongoing efforts to empower women and promote a safer and more informed community.
