Poland in Mongolia

Political cooperation

The Polish Embassy in Ulaanbaatar operated from 1960 to 1995. It was re-established in 2000 and closed again in 2009. From 2015 to 2021, a visiting ambassador from Warsaw was accredited to Mongolia.

On 18 March 2021, with the arrival in Ulaanbaatar of Ambassador Krzysztof Bojko, Poland's diplomatic presence in Mongolia was officially re-established.

High level visits and meetings between Poland and Mongolia:

On 21 September 2021, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Polish President A. Duda met with Mongolian President U. Khurelsukh.

On 21-25 November 2021, Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm M. Gosiewska visited Mongolia at the invitation of the Deputy Chairman of the Grand Khurai State Council T. Ayursaikhan.

On 31 March 2022, the 2nd meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation was held.

On 5 April 2022, political consultations were held at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

On 4-6 June 2022, Minister Zbigniew Rau, in his capacity as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, visited Ulaanbaatar on an official visit.

On 24-26 April 2023, the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda paid an official visit to Mongolia. The programme of the visit included talks with President U. Khürelsükh, Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene and Chairman of the Great State Khural G. Zandanshatar. The Polish President opened a Polish-Mongolian business forum, met with Poles living in Mongolia and Mongolian graduates of Polish universities. He also delivered a lecture at the Mongolian State University, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate. During the visit, the President of Poland, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia B.Battsetseg inaugurated the new premises of the Polish Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.

Economic cooperation

In 2023, turnover reached approximately USD 100 million. The largest share of exports from Poland are foodstuffs, products of the chemical industry, plastics and articles made of them, machinery and mechanical equipment.

In 2017 Poland signed a tied aid credit agreement with Mongolia for €50 million. Within the framework of this agreement  Polish companies are supplying fire engines, field hospitals, ambulances, as well as building water and waste treatment facilities in 6 aimags.

Development aid

Poland provides development assistance to Mongolia under the MFA's Small Grants programme. In 2023, two projects were implemented with a total value of EUR 25,000 (support for Caritas Mongolia and Down Syndrome Association of Mongolia).

Cultural and scientific cooperation

Based on the 1999 Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of Mongolia on Cooperation in Culture, Education and Science, Mongolia sends 22 students to Poland annually.

Every year, Polish Film Days are held in Ulaanbaatar. Mongolian edition of the International Chopin Piano Competition is organized in Ulaanbaatar every 5 years (the third edition was held in 2021). One of the most ambitious joint scientific projects currently ongoing is a Polish-Mongolian archaeological expedition in the southern Gobi . It is being carried out jointly by the University of Wrocław, Mongolian Academy of Science and the Mongolian University of Education. The Polish Geological Institute is conducting a joint research project with the Mongolian Geological Survice in the Bayanchongor ayimak.

Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Erdenet was established on 26 May 2022.
