Post-Quantum Cryptography - Seminar with Professor Kris Gaj

30.06.2025

On 27th June 2025 at the National Institute of Telecommunications, a Hybrid Seminar with Professor Krzysztof (Kris) Gaj was held. Professor Gaj gave a lecture titled: "Post-Quantum Digital Signature Standards and Hardware Implementations".

Prof. Krzysztof (Kris) Gaj

Professor Gaj presented an overview of the post-quantum digital signature schemes, both the newly standardised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) algorithms, i.e., ML-DSA and SLH-DSA and the selected candidates from the ongoing (i.e., opened at the end of 2024) NIST standardisation process.

He presented the results of comparative analysis, including those performed by his research team. The study of the chosen algorithms considered parameters such as the size of cryptographic keys and signatures, the speed of signing and verification processes, and the efficiency of memory usage. In conclusion, Professor Gaj summarised the state of the art in post-quantum cryptography, indicating the pros and cons of the algorithms and their applicability in the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system.

The discussion with participants gathered in the room and online included issues such as hardware implementation security, particularly the algorithm's resistance against side-channel attacks, and hybrid solutions (i.e., parallel usage of classical and post-quantum cryptography) in massive trust services.

The seminar enjoyed great interest among academia, governmental agencies, and trust service providers.
