Specialized artificial intelligence: an opportunity for Poland, say experts

17.04.2025

Krzysztof Szubert, Plenipotentiary of the Director of the National Institute of Telecommunications for Commercialization and International Cooperation, took part in the expert debate “AI in the Service of Citizens, the State, and National Security.” The event, organized by the National Chamber of Digital Economy and the Defence24 portal, was part of the series “Poland 5.0 from the Citizen’s Perspective – Priorities for Polish Digitalization 2025–2028.”

Experts emphasized that Poland has the potential to join - and even lead - the global race in artificial intelligence development, provided it focuses on narrow, specialized AI applications in specific sectors such as manufacturing and cybersecurity.

Poland is at a pivotal point in building competitive advantages and establishing a market position in the broad field of artificial intelligence. A strategic race is currently unfolding between global powers like China, the United States, and the Middle East, which are heavily investing in AI. Europe—and Poland in particular—possesses the intellectual potential to play a major role in this race, provided we pursue specialization in targeted areas, including cybersecurity, backed by both national and European funding mechanisms.

- stated Krzysztof Szubert during the debate.

The panel also featured key figures from the public and defense sectors, including:

  • Michał Baranowski – Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Development and Technology
  • Sebastian Wilk – Deputy Director, Centre for Information Technology
  • Col. Mariusz Kijowski – Director, Communications and IT Bureau, Border Guard Headquarters
  • Col. Piotr Turek – Cyberspace Defense Forces Component Command
  • Maciej Dudkiewicz – Director, Department of Information Society Development and Projects, NASK-PIB.
