Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels

Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski took part in the last ministerial meeting of the Alliance before the Summit in The Hague.
During the meeting, Allies discussed how to further strengthen deterrence and defence capabilities. NATO adopted new capability targets with a particular focus on air defence, logistics, and large land formations.
The ministers also met in the NATO-Ukraine Council format with the participation of Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. They discussed the current situation on the battlefield and possibilities for military and political support for Ukraine.
The meeting was concluded by a session of the Nuclear Planning Group. NATO nuclear deterrence remains an important element to prevent aggression.
On the margins of the ministerial meeting, a ceremony was held to sign the Joint Declaration on the Security of the Baltic Sea. Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, and Sweden joined the initiative proposed by Poland. In the document, the countries declared actions to protect the Baltic Sea and its infrastructure, especially in light of recent incidents.
The Deputy Minister also took part in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on NATO flight training in Europe.
During a meeting with the media, Minister Zalewski noted that talks within the Alliance on increasing the minimum defence spending ceiling are moving in the right direction. He emphasized that Poland is considered a model Ally in this regard.
