Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau with NATO Secretary General

During the first visit to Brussels on September 21 Minister Rau visited NATO Headquarters and met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The meeting was devoted to the Alliance's relations with Russia in the context of the poisoning of the Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny, the current situation in Belarus and its implications for the security of NATO's eastern flank, as well as preparations for the NATO Summit in 2021.

The Secretary General thanked for Poland's contribution to the Alliance's activities, participation in missions and operations, as well as fulfillment of obligations and spending 2% of GDP on defense. Stoltenberg also thanked Poland for the recently announced Polish participation in the Allied TAMT mission (Tailored Assurance Measures for Turkey). Poland will send one MPA M28B Bryza & up to 80 troops to Turkey.

Minister Rau's visit to NATO took place just a few days after the symbolic inauguration of the Solidarity sign installed at NATO Headquarters on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Solidarity Movement in Poland. Minister Zbigniew Rau and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg marked this event by posing together for a photo in front of the monument.
