NATO Defence Ministers' Meeting in Brussels

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz took part in the meeting of NATO defence ministers.
The meeting started with a session of the Nuclear Planning Group. The ministers issued a statement emphasising that the strategic nuclear forces of the Alliance remain the supreme guarantee of Allied security and underpin NATO's extended deterrence architecture. NPG Ministers agreed to continue enhancing NATO's nuclear deterrence mission by modernising NATO's nuclear capabilities, strengthening its nuclear planning capacity, and adapting to achieve its security interests.The Alliance maintains a safe, secure, effective, and credible nuclear posture to preserve peace, prevent coercion and deter aggression.

During the meeting at 32, preparations for the summit in Ankara were discussed, particularly in the context of further strengthening deterrence and defence capabilities and increasing defence spending.
On the sidelines of the ministerial sessions, the Deputy Prime Minister held consultations with his American, Latvian and Swedish counterparts. He also took part in a meeting of the signatories to the ELSA (European Long-Range Strike Approach) initiative.
During a press conference, W. Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that he had received a reply from Secretary P. Hegseth to the letter of 29 May 2026 regarding Poland’s readiness to host a permanent US military base. The Department of Defence is open to Poland’s offer. Discussions on this matter will continue.
Following the NATO ministerial meetings, a session of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) was held, attended by the President of Ukraine, V. Zelenskyy, and chaired by Germany and the United Kingdom.
