Team Poland wins Gold at the 31st NATO Chess Championship

The Polish Team, who has been participating in the NATO Chess Championships since 2002, was joined on the podium by Team Greece (2nd place) and Team Germany (3rd place).

Representatives of the Polish Armed Forces: Lt Col Sławomir Kędzierski (Team Captain), Maj Mateusz Sypień, Lt Dariusz Sycz, Lt Damian Graczyk, 2Lt Marcin Pietruszewski, 2Lt Kamil Cichy, Cadet Mateusz Tustanowski and LCpl Daniel Michalski won Team Gold at the 31st NATO Chess Championship, which took place on October 11-15, 2021 in Blankenberge, Belgium.

99 players from 15 NATO nations, forming 18 teams, fought hard to win the main trophy “King Canute”. Polish soldiers have been participating in NATO Chess Championships since 2002 without a single break, almost always making the top 3 in the team competition. In 2016, 2018 and 2021 the Polish Team won gold.

This year Allies present in Blankenberge also entrusted Poland with leading roles in the International Military Chess Committee by electing Lt Col Sławomir Kędzierski as Chairman and Lt Dariusz Sycz as Secretary.
