Poland in the OSCE

As the Personal Representatives of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office tasked with addressing tolerance issues, we are cognizant of the enormous challenges that we face on this International Day of Tolerance.

The 29th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will take place 1-2 December 2022 in Łódź, Poland.

Today a new donor-funded Support Programme for Ukraine (SPU) was launched by contributing OSCE participating States. The Support Programme addresses some of the immediate challenges to civilians posed by the war waged against Ukraine and supports the long-term democratic and social resilience of Ukrainian institutions and civil society organizations.

Following the lack of consensus by the OSCE Permanent Council to extend the mandates of the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) and the Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, due to the position of the Russian Federation, the OSCE is closing these two field operations today.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau concluded a visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where as the Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, he attended the annual OSCE Mediterranean Conference. This year’s edition was titled “Advancing security and co-operation in the Mediterranean: fostering dialogue with the OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation”.

Increasing resilience to cyber attacks and threats by raising public awareness and enhancing the role of cyber education – these were the central themes of the conference held in Łódź on 20-21 October 2022 as part of Poland’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Following the invitation by the government of the Republic of Armenia, the OSCE will send a needs assessment team to the country on 21-27 October.

The OSCE’s Warsaw Human Dimension Conference ended on 7 October 2022. The 10-day event brought together over a thousand attendees representing international organisations, governments, and civil society from the whole OSCE area, who came together to analyse the implementation of the OSCE Human Dimension commitments.

The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt (MP, Sweden), OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Secretary General Roberto Montella, unanimously and categorically condemn the Russian Federation’s illegal annexation of territory in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts of Ukraine, as well as the continued occupation of Crimea.
