Poland in the OSCE

OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, and OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid today unequivocally condemned the so-called “legal proceedings” launched against two national mission members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) and the continuing detention of one other national mission member. The three national mission members have been detained for almost five months.

On 13 September, the Personal Representatives of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office concluded a country-visit to Georgia. The purpose of the visit was to assess and share information on best practices and challenges pertaining to tolerance and non-discrimination.

Six months since the start of the 24 February Russian war against Ukraine, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Poland Zbigniew Rau today renewed his call on the Russian Federation to immediately put an end to the unprovoked violence and stop the tragic suffering and loss of life it continues to cause.

Since 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation started its unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, we have been witnessing appalling scenes of harm, pain, and suffering inflicted on hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians for days on end. The tragic lot of millions of civilian refugees, mostly women and children, and the enormity of damage and destruction caused by the war bring to mind the darkest periods in the contemporary history of Europe and the world.

On 26 September 2022, 14:00 - 7 October 2022, the Polish 2022 OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office, with the support of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) organize Warsaw Human Dimension Conference.

During their visit to Kyiv, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Poland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau, and OSCE Secretary General, Helga Maria Schmid announced a new OSCE support programme for Ukraine.

On 2 August 2022, Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Foreign Affairs Minister Zbigniew Rau paid an official visit to Ukraine.

OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Poland, Zbigniew Rau, and OSCE Secretary General, Helga Maria Schmid, today reiterated their call for the unconditional and immediate release of three national Mission members of the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM), detained in Donetsk and Luhansk for more than three months.
