The first meeting of the OSCE Informal Working Group on Cyber/ICT Security under Poland's Chairpersonship
24.06.2025
On 24 June 2025, the first meeting of the OSCE Informal Working Group on Cyber/ICT Security took place under the chairpersonship of Poland's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł.
During the meeting, the vast majority of OSCE participating States expressed their strong support for enhancing Ukraine's cybersecurity and stressed that building resilience against cyber threats, protecting critical infrastructure, and fostering interregional cooperation are among the main priorities.
On 20 May 2025, the Finnish Chairpersonship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) appointed Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, the Permanent Representative of Poland to the OSCE, as the new Chair of the Informal Working Group (IWG) established by Permanent Council Decision 1039. This appointment reflects Poland's strong and ongoing commitment to international cybersecurity cooperation and the promotion of trust and stability in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) among OSCE participating States.
Under the leadership of Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, the IWG will continue to provide a vital forum for discussion, transparency, and trust-building among OSCE participating States, supporting the peaceful use of cyberspace and the shared goal of a stable and secure cyber environment across the OSCE area.
Poland is committed to collaborating closely with the Finnish OSCE Chairpersonship, the adopters of confidence-building measures, and other key stakeholders to ensure the continuity of cyber expertise within the OSCE and to further enhance cooperation in this increasingly critical domain.
The IWG's goal is to facilitate dialogue and collaboration on the implementation of the OSCE's confidence-building measures (CBMs) in the field of cyber/ICT security. These voluntary measures are crucial for mitigating the risks of misperception, conflict, and escalation in cyberspace.
