Celebration of the 3rd May Constitution Day in Singapore

29.04.2025

On 29 April 2025, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Singapore hosted an official reception to mark the 233rd anniversary of the adoption of the Polish Constitution of 3 May 1791.

National Day Reception 2025 - opening remarks by the Ambassador of Poland in Singapore, Tadeusz Chomicki.

The event gathered over 200 guests, including representatives of Singaporean government agencies, the diplomatic corps, cultural institutions, business circles, as well as members of the Polish community living in Singapore.

The official part of the evening opened with speeches delivered by Mr. Tadeusz Chomicki, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Singapore, and the Guest of Honour – Low Hon Mun, the Acting Director-General of the Europe Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.

The Ambassador’s address commemorates the adoption of Poland’s May 3rd Constitution of 1791—Europe’s first modern constitution—as a lasting symbol of liberty, democracy, and national resilience. It emphasizes how the values enshrined in that historic document remain profoundly relevant today, especially amid global threats such as the war in Ukraine. It is in this context that Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union has chosen the guiding motto “Secure Europe,” reflecting the country's deep commitment to stability, democratic principles, and unity within the EU.

The speech also underlined the importance of Poland’s relationship with Singapore. Despite the geographical distance, the two countries are closely connected through shared values such as the rule of law, respect for sovereignty, and the belief in open and fair economies. Bilateral cooperation continues to grow, particularly in forward-looking sectors like digital technologies, cybersecurity, and innovation. There remains vast untapped potential, and the speaker voiced optimism that Poland’s dynamic talent and Singapore’s world-class innovation ecosystem can together build a future of mutual success. Also, cultural diplomacy was presented as a powerful tool in strengthening bilateral ties.

Ambassador Chomicki expressed gratitude to the Singaporean partners and guests, calling for continued collaboration and unity in shaping a peaceful, prosperous future.

The national anthems of Poland and Singapore were performed to mark the solemnity of the occasion.

During the event, guests had the opportunity to view two exhibitions presented by the Embassy: "The Constitution of 3 May" – highlighting the historical significance of Europe’s first modern constitution, and "Europe We Share" – a visual story of shared European values and heritage.

The celebration served as a platform to reaffirm the strong ties between Poland and Singapore and to promote Polish history and values in the international context.
