Visit of the Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets of Poland Mr Maciej Małecki to Singapore

Bilateral cooperation in the space sector, modern technologies in communication, cybersecurity and energy transformation as well as fostering foreign investments were at the heart of the working visit to Singapore by Mr Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets of Poland

Mr Małecki met Singapore’s Minister for Transport, Minister-in-charge of Trade Relation Mr S. Iswaran with whom he discussed connectivity, trade and investments related issues as well as prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the area of Digital Economy. He held also talks on Polish infrastructural and investment projects, Polish-Singapore economic relations and the current situation in Ukraine with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr Gabriel Lim . The meeting with the Commissioner of Cybersecurity and Chief Executive of the Singapore Cyber Security Agency Mr David Koh centred around new challenges in the cyber space that require closer cooperation internationally among like-minded countries.

On 15 February Mr Małecki attended Global Space and Technology Convention where he, together with Ambassador of Poland to Singapore Ms Magdalena Bogdziewicz, officiated the ceremony of singing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the space sector between Polish Space Technology Cluster and Singapore Space and Technology Ltd.  The pact was signed by the Chair of Polish Space Technology Cluster Mr Rafał Magryś and Singapore Space and Technology Ltd.  Chief Executive Ms Lynette Tan. Polish Space Agency POLSA representative was for the first time among the speakers at the convention.

“With over 100 space technologies developed in recent years a Polish space sector has been growing  rapidly and aspires to further increase its share in the global space market” – said Mr Małecki  after meeting Executive Chairman Singapore Space and Technology Ltd Jonathan Hung. He further noted: “I am confident the memorandum will create excellent opportunities for Polish and Singaporean businesses as well as pave the way for enhanced cooperation of our research entities and experts in the space sector in such vital areas as satellite imaging and communication and the increased use of quantum technologies for these purposes.”  Polish Space Agency POLSA representative was for the first time among the speakers at the convention.

The delegation visited National Research Foundation where the Secretary of State met with CEO Mr Beh Kian Teik to discuss  topics of mutual interest such as R&D financing, translation of research results and pathways to commercialization. The delegation also paid a visit to Center of Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore.

Ambassador Bogdziewicz observed that the Secretary of State’s visit took timely place shortly after the conclusion of the Singapore – EU Digital Partnership. “We see a lot of potential for further development of digital economy, with Singapore’s innovation oriented growth and Poland’s strong capabilities in modern technologies, large pool of well-educated STEM graduates and 5000 strong startups community of which 60% are the IT companies with high expertise in cybersecurity. Polish IT services are present on and highly valued by the local market” – she explained.

The visit was also an occasion to hold talks with key Singaporean investors interested in the large-scale and critical infrastructure as well as energy projects. The delegation visited Pasir Panjang Terminal run by PSA International – the largest Singaporean investor in Central and Eastern Europe and a port operator present in Gdańsk Baltic Hub since 2019.

Mr Małecki met also with representatives of the Polish community in Singapore. During the visit, he was accompanied by the delegates from Polish Space Technology Cluster and state owned telco Exatel, as well as R&D experts and scientists form Polish universities.
