Indictment following a counterintelligence investigation

The investigation carried out by the Internal Security Agency (ABW) resulted in an indictment against a 44-year-old foreigner. The man has been accused of participating in operations of foreign intelligence against the Republic of Poland. The investigation was initiated basing on findings made by the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW).
The indictment was filed with the court on August 30, 2023. In the course of the Agency’s investigation, initiated on the basis of the military counterintelligence findings, extensive evidence was collected indicating that the accused acted on behalf of the Federal Security Service [of the Russian Federation].
The man was responsible for recognizing and documenting the location of specific facilities belonging to institutions responsible for the state internal security. The accused acted independently. He received instructions and details regarding the assigned tasks directly from the territory of the Russian Federation.
The man was accused of taking part in the activities of foreign intelligence directed against the Republic of Poland, which is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years. The foreigner pleaded guilty to the charges. A preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention has been applied to the accused.
