Poland Strengthens Cooperation with Azerbaijan in the Field of Security

Cooperation in the areas of security, defence, and the further development of bilateral relations were the main topics discussed by Minister Tomasz Siemoniak with representatives of the Azerbaijani state authorities during his two-day visit to Baku (6-7 May).

Cooperation for Security

The Minister–Member of the Council of Ministers Coordinator of the Intelligence and Security Services met with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for Foreign Affairs.

We discussed a wide range of issues: bilateral relations (particularly in the area of security), the war and the situation in Iran, Russia’s war against Ukraine, and relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. An excellent interlocutor and a great deal of shared understanding of the turbulent world surrounding both Poland and Azerbaijan

An Outstanding Polish Engineer Helped Build Baku’s Oil Industry

Minister Tomasz Siemoniak also laid flowers at the grave of Paweł Potocki, an outstanding Polish engineer and expert in the oil industry, particularly in oil extraction. Potocki conducted research on oil deposits in Azerbaijan and identified the areas richest in oil reserves.  He was a pioneer in offshore oil extraction and the author and executor of the project to drain the Bibi-Heybat Bay.

Paweł Potocki died in 1932 and, in accordance with his last will, was buried at his place of work – on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
