Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Internal Security Agency Day Ceremony

On 15 April 2025, a ceremonial event was held to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of civil special services in free Poland. On this occasion, Prime Minister Donald Tusk participated in a special assembly of the Internal Security Agency.

During the event, the Agency officers received officer appointments and awards for particular commitment to combating acts of diversion and sabotage on behalf of foreign services.

The Prime Minister addressed participants with words of appreciation for their professionalism, dedication to countering threats, and commitment to safeguarding the security of Poland and its citizens. He also emphasised that special services today play a key role in state security, especially in the face of the increasing number of hybrid threats.

The event was also attended by: the Minister of the Interior and Administration and Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar, Head of the National Security Bureau General Dariusz Łukowski, National Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk, Chairman of the Sejm Special Services Committee Marek Biernacki, State Secretary in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Radosław Kujawa, as well as the heads of special services and uniformed formations.

The Internal Security Agency Day falls on 6 April — the anniversary of the adoption of the 1990 Act which established the Office for State Protection. This was the first civil special service in democratic Poland and formed the foundation of the modern state security system.

The day is also an opportunity to honour officers and staff who work out of the spotlight in the service of the most important values — freedom, the rule of law, and national sovereignty.
