Russia continues its invasion

13.07.2022

Poland's experience and up-to-date knowledge indicate that Russia will continue the war against Ukraine and will remain a country that is aggressive towards other states. Russia will also try to weaken NATO. A strategic objective of the Kremlin is to destroy or completely humiliate the Alliance.

Russia continues its invasion against Ukraine. After a short operational pause, the Kremlin will presumably begin another phase of war. We should expect further attacks, more crimes perpetrated against soldiers and civilians and new attempts to terrorize citizens of the whole of Ukraine. There’s no indication that Russia’s war against Ukraine is about to end. There’s no sign that Russia wants to resign of its objective, which is to destroy Ukraine in its present form.

Russia will also continue its information warfare that it sees as an element of supervising Russians, but also as a tool to attack NATO countries. The aim of Russia’s operations is still to blur the Kremlin’s responsibility for the attack against Ukraine, to distort the perception of war, to cover up Russian crimes and losses, as well as to destabilize western countries that are engaged in helping Ukraine. Russia wants to force the West to lift sanctions imposed on Russia and to withdraw aid directed to Ukraine.

Poland has been a target of Russia’s propaganda activities and of its psychological pressure for years. We know how to assess Russian objectives in real terms and we see growing aggression of Moscow. We also know how to identify hybrid operations carried out by the special services of the Russian Federation. Our experience and up-to-date knowledge indicate that Russia will continue the war against Ukraine and will remain a country that is aggressive towards states that it treats as its zone of influence. Russia will also try to weaken and play off NATO countries. A strategic objective of the Kremlin is to destroy or completely humiliate the Alliance.

The reaction of the West must focus on helping Ukraine. However, it is also essential to have a joint approach towards Russian threats. Only with maintaining unity and common assessment of threats coming from the east, will we be able to stop Russian aggression. As for the Kremlin, the war against Ukraine is only a transit stop…
