Statement from the Spokesman of the Minister for Special Services Coordination
01.08.2024
On the basis of close Polish-American ties, allied cooperation, and shared security interests, as well as a common understanding of democratic values, the authorities of the Republic of Poland-the President, the Prime Minister, and the government-have agreed to the request of the United States authorities to include, in accordance with Polish law, Paweł Rubcow, an officer of the GRU arrested in Poland in 2022 while carrying out intelligence tasks in Europe and awaiting trial, in an exchange of persons imprisoned in Russia and Belarus and NATO countries. Under the exchange, a group of officers and collaborators of Russian special services was transferred to Russia, while a group of unjustly accused and convicted citizens of Western states and Russian human rights and democracy defenders left Russia and Belarus.
We welcome the United States authorities’ declaration to intensify cooperation in countering hybrid aggression by Russia and Belarus against Poland, including the threat of diversionary actions.
