The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Mirosław Broiło, in a conversation with the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin (USA), discussed plans for 2026 and outlined priority topics at the ITU forum from the perspective of Poland.

The conversation, which took place at our request on February 12, 2026, focused primarily on the high-level dinner on the occasion of the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2026. This prestigious event is well-known in the international Geneva and is recognizable both at the ITU and among the local permanent representations. We would like to use this moment to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UKE, the recent adoption of the final document of the WSIS+20 review process, as well as to promote Poland's candidacy for the ITU Council.

Ambassador M. Broiło emphasized that the last two decades have been groundbreaking for digital development in the world. The rapid development of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, has become a new challenge for states, institutions, organizations and all other stakeholders, underlining the need to ensure that they can be used to promote economic and social development, while protecting human rights and mitigating various risks. In this context, the Ambassador reaffirmed to the Secretary General Poland’s declaration on close cooperation with the ITU.

Another point raised in the conversation was the upcoming Plenipotentiary Conference in November this year in Doha. This is the most important meeting in the ITU's four-year cycle of activities, during which not only the highest authorities of the organization are elected, but also the new composition of the ITU Council and the Radio Regulation Board (RRB). Poland is running for re-election to the Council, competing in Region C. On the occasion of the conversation, the Ambassador informed about Poland's support for the candidacy of the Secretary General – who is running for re-election for the same position. At the same time, he asked for the ITU leadership’s support for Poles working at the ITU at various career levels.
