Poland in the UN

22nd of August marks the third International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. It was introduced by a resolution 73/296 adopted unanimously by the UN General Assembly on 28th of May 2019. The idea of a resolution establishing the International Day was put forward by Poland.

The Human Rights Council held its 47th session from June 21 to July 14 in Geneva. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meetings of the Council were conducted almost entirely in a virtual form. The 47th session was the fifth in which Poland served as a Council member.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Office and the international organizations in Vienna, ambassador Dominika Krois, has been elected as President of the IDB taking place between 12-15 July 2021.

On 24 June 2021, Professor Michał Balcerzak of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń was elected member of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) by a majority of 135 votes, during the 29th meeting of the state parties of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which was held in the UN’s New York headquarters.

Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York, together with the missions of Bahrain, India, Liechtenstein and Turkmenistan initiated this year's celebration of World Bicycle Day.

The Day of Polish Community and Poles Abroad was established in recognition of the historical contribution of diaspora communities to the national objectives of the country of their forefathers. Celebrated jointly with Polish Flag Day, it is intended to encourage Poles to reflect on the glorious pages of the country’s past.

Ambassador Dominika Krois, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the UN Office in Vienna opened today the 64. session of the Commission in her capacity as Chair.

Mr. Henryk Czubek, Counsellor and UNIDO Team Leader at the Permanent Mission of the Republic Poland to the United Nations Office in Vienna was appointed as co-chair of the Informal Working Group on Program and Budget Committee issues of UNIDO (IWG PBC).

The 46th session of the Human Rights Council was held in Geneva on February 22 - March 24, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meetings of the Council took place almost entirely online. The 46th session of the Council was the fourth one Poland participated as a member state during its 2020-2022 term.
