On July, 23 2025, Poland participated in the UN Security Council open debate on Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

The full statement delivered by Krzysztof Szczerski, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the UN in New York, is available below:

Mister President,

I would like to begin by thanking Pakistan for convening today’s meeting and Assistant Secretary General Khiari for his briefing.

Poland supports the broad statement delivered by the EU.

Mister President,

The time has come for renewed and genuine efforts to bring lasting peace to the Middle East. The region cannot afford further cycles of violence, despair, and humanitarian catastrophe.

Poland reaffirms its longstanding position that Israel’s long-term security must be achieved through diplomatic engagement with its neighbours. The Abraham Accords, achieved under U.S. auspices, illustrate the potential of such diplomacy. However, their further development requires addressing the Palestinian question.

We remain fully committed to the two-state solution. Poland recognized Palestinian statehood in 1988. We also remain engaged in preparations for the upcoming New York conference in support of that goal.

Mister President,

While we recognize Israel’s right to self-defense, we cannot accept actions that result in the starvation of civilian population, children in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Poland reiterates that the blockade of the Gaza Strip and restrictions on humanitarian aid constitute unacceptable violations of international law. We firmly oppose the instrumentalization of humanitarian needs for political or military aims. We further call for the protection of humanitarian and medical personnel, and respect for international law. Recent attacks on religious sites, including churches, are inacceptable.

Mister President,

Poland calls for immediate, full, and sustained humanitarian access. The situation on the ground is extremely dramatic, and the most vulnerable continue to suffer the most. We hope that Israel’s recent decisions to resume aid delivery will be swiftly implemented and expanded, including the opening of all border crossings for broad humanitarian operations.

Poland reiterates the importance of resuming the activities of UN agencies, particularly UNRWA, in the occupied territories. We observe with concern the introduction of new aid mechanisms involving private companies, which risk undermining impartiality in humanitarian delivery.

Mister President,

In conclusion,  Poland remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting civilians. This week – alongside 25 like-minded foreign ministers, we supported a UK-led letter — highlighting the urgent humanitarian situation in Gaza. We continue to uphold the principles of peace, human dignity, and international law.

Thank you.
