Discussions on the future of agriculture in Europe and international cooperation
09.05.2025
The second day of the European Congress for Rural Renewal and Development in Poznań means discussions on the future of agriculture, rural areas and international cooperation. In parallel to the official programme of the Congress, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski met with the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen and the representatives of agricultural organisations and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova Ludmila Catlabuga.
The introduction to the theme of the second day of the Congress was the morning bilateral meeting between Minister Czesław Siekierski and Commissioner Christophe Hansen. The topics being discussed included the principles of key importance for the EU to strengthen food security, conditions for rural development and the need for dialogue with farmers and rural residents.
Czesław Siekierski, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development:
Two days ago, the European Parliament, during the debate on the financial framework also supported the maintenance of a strong, two-pillar CAP. This is very good news that we want to convey here – both for agriculture and for the cohesion of rural areas. It is worth reminding that today rural residents account for more than 40% of the population, but after all, we all have contact with the countryside – we go there from cities, we use its resources. Therefore, strengthening rural areas is extremely important. The vision being presented is based on a wide-ranging dialogue with farmers, rural residents and all stakeholders, and the actions implemented address the challenges of the future – both climate and geopolitical. Once again, we would like to thank the Commissioner for his presence and sharing this important perspective.
Polish-Moldovan talks
During a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova Ludmila Catlabuga, Minister Czesław Siekierski confirmed Poland’s readiness to provide expert support to Moldova on its path to the EU. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture also reiterated the invitation to the second edition of the training course entitled “Summer School for representatives of Moldova and Ukraine 2025”.
Czesław Siekierski, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development:
This January, on the sidelines of the International Green Week fair in Berlin, we signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of agriculture. This was an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations. Dear Minister, I would like to assure you that we uphold the declaration of readiness of Polish specialists to continue providing expert support to the Moldovan party in agricultural matters. Poland strongly, actively and consistently supports the membership of the Republic of Moldova in the European Union.
