Europe Day in Sydney

The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney, in cooperation with the consulates of the EU Member States in Sydney celebrated on May 6th Europe Day at the Parliament of New South Wales. This event commemorates the declaration made by Robert Schuman on 9 May 1950 in Paris, which initiated the foundation of the European Union.
The Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025, is the second presidency of the Council since our country has joined the European Community. Poland takes its presidency with great responsibility, with regard to the current political situation in the world.
In his opening speech, Consul General of the Republic of Poland Piotr Rakowski emphasized that the countries of the European Community safeguard the principles governing international relations focused on peaceful cooperation and dialogue. These relations are based on equality, not force. These are shared values and the cooperation between Australia and the European Union Member States is developing and getting stronger on many levels.
The second speaker, Benjamin Cameron Franklin, Chairman of the NSW Legislative Council stressed the significance of the Europeans’ contribution in the development of Australia.
The joint achievements in the field of science were the topic of the speech delivered by Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, a scientist and promoter of science in Australia. Dr. Kruszelnicki in a vivid and exciting way presented the most important scientific achievements of the European scientists and their contribution to the development of the world, including Australian science.
