In February, the first meeting of the “Literary Club at the Consulate” took place in the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney. This new initiative launched by the Consulate aims to organise events dedicated to Polish poetry and prose, including meetings with authors.

As part of the project, cooperation was established with the Polish Australian Chamber of Commerce, resulting in a series of closed workshops conducted with the support of experts from the University of Łódź (online), focusing on the analysis and study of selected works of Polish writers.

The first session was devoted to the work of Andrzej Sapkowski, who also joined the meeting online. Thanks to the virtual connection, academic staff from the University of Łódź-Prof. Tomasz Cieślak and Prof. Natalia Lemann-also participated.

Representatives of the State Library of New South Wales took part in the meeting as well. Executive Director Cameron Morley presented how readers of Polish-language publications can access them within the library network of New South Wales. It was also noted by Dr Caroline Butler-Bowdon, State Librarian of NSW, that the number of Polish-language books is steadily increasing, and access to them through the state library system is becoming more widespread.

Beyond the closed workshops, the Consulate General plans to organise open meetings for all lovers of Polish literature in Sydney. Information regarding future events will be published on the Consulate’s website and social media channels.
