During the government delegation’s tightly scheduled visit to Australia and New Zealand, which included meetings with federal and state administration officials, Australian and New Zealand companies, and Polish-Australian businesses, the schedule also included time for the Deputy Prime Minister to meet with members of the Polish community. The meeting took place at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney.
The event, held on Sunday 22 February, was attended both by Polish citizens who emigrated to Australia as adults and by the next generation—those born and raised in here. Among the guests were representatives of the Polish Australian Federal Council, presidents of Polish clubs from New South Wales, members of the Polish Australian Chamber of Commerce (PACC), as well as representatives of Polish Saturday schools, business community, and Polish community media. The meeting was also attended by officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH).
During the meeting, hosted by Consul General Piotr Rakowski, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski presented the latest and most significant initiatives of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, as well as Poland’s strategic directions in digital development. He emphasized that Poland ranks among the world leaders in digitalization, and that the solutions being implemented are streamlining the functioning of the state and improving the quality of public services for citizens.
He also drew attention to the risks present in cyberspace, which pose real threats to individuals and their data. He highlighted how the Ministry coordinates the activities of various public administration entities to ensure the highest level of cybersecurity.
During the discussion with the Polish community, numerous questions were raised. Topics included access for Poles living in Australia to the mObywatel application and the functioning of the e-doręczenia system. The discussion also touched upon legal measures introduced by the Australian government restricting social media access for children under 16.
