National Independence Day celebrations in Canberra

11.11.2023

Ceremony commemorating the 105th anniversary of Poland’s independence took place on 11 November at the Polish Embassy in Canberra. The event was inaugurated at 12 pm with singing of the National Anthem of Poland as part of the campaign “Niepodległa do Hymnu”.

Ambassador Maciej Chmieliński presented distinguished Polish community activists with state decorations awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda:

- Gold Cross of Merit to Mr Robert Czernkowski

- Silver Cross of Merit to Mrs Anna Pacewicz

The ceremony was followed by a piano recital of Fryderyk Chopin and other distinguished Polish composers such as Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Karol Szymanowski’s music by a Polish-Australian pianist Christopher Malek.
