Poland and Australia - together against disinformation and other hybrid threats
21.10.2026
On 14-16 October 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra organized a study visit for Polish experts in the field of countering disinformation. The delegation was composed of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and NASK, as well as Polish think tanks, namely the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW).
The key highlight of the visit was the international conference “The Battle for Truth: Countering Disinformation Across Europe and the Indo-Pacific,” organized on 16 October by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra and the Australian National University Centre for European Studies (ANU). The three-day program also included a series of meetings with representatives of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other government agencies, informal interactions with media representatives, academic centers, and the diplomatic corps, as well as dedicated thematic workshops.
Such a theme is highly relevant having in mind the global implications of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the growing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific region, both of which affect the security of Poland and Australia. The discussions enabled sharing Polish experiences in countering disinformation and foreign interference—and more broadly, the whole set of Russian hybrid activities directed against Poland and other European countries. The key outcome of the visit is bigger awareness that there is a strong need to intensify cooperation and partnerships between like-minded countries, including within various international frameworks such as NATO and the EU. Such efforts are critical to better and more effectively face ongoing challenges and threats together, while strengthening the resilience of our democratic societies.
