New quarantine rules after crossing the border

04.05.2020

Starting 4 May 2020, people who cross the Polish border in their professional capacity, or for official, work or educational purposes in Poland or a neighbouring country will not be placed under mandatory quarantine (except for medical practitioners and employees of social welfare centres).

The new rules exempt from quarantine people who cross the border with Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Sweden and Denmark. However, when entering Poland, these people are required to present the border guards with relevant documents confirming that the purpose of their visit is either in a professional context, or for work, official or educational purposes.

The new rules on mandatory quarantine were introduced by Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 2 May 2020 on establishing certain restrictions, instructions and prohibitions in relation to the epidemic outbreak.

It should be remembered that the EU’s internal border controls have been extended until 13 May 2020 and that borders with Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Lithuania can only be crossed at designated places. The controls at sea ports and airports will be continued.

Drivers transporting international shipments of goods who cross the border with Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Lithuania are exempt from these controls. This includes  border controls as well as health checks – upon consent from the Chief Sanitary Inspector. In addition, such drivers will not be placed under the mandatory 14-day quarantine on their arrival to Poland.

Also, quarantine obligations will  not apply to people who cross the Polish border in order to work at an agricultural holding that operates on both sides of the Polish border.
