20.10.2021
The anniversary celebrations took place on October 20th in Nicosia.
Since its foundation in 2001, the Society’s goal is to cultivate the culture, language and customs amongst Poles living in Cyprus. The activity of “Malwa”, however, goes far beyond the Polish diaspora, disseminating knowledge about Polish culture also amid the citizens of Cyprus and other countries.
In her speech, the president of the Polish Cultural Society in Cyprus “Malwa”, Mrs Urszula Savvopoulou, thanked everyone who supports the activities of the Society, both by co-organizing various types of events and actively participating in them. The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn, read a letter from Mr Jan Dziedziczak, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and the Government Plenipotentiary for Polonia and Poles Abroad.
In turn, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Prodromos Prodromou, thanked "Malwa" for its performance and achievements. He emphasized the importance of cultural cooperation with Poland which has been reflected by signing – during the recent visit of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda to Cyprus - the subsequent Polish-Cypriot Programme of Cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, sport and youth for the years 2021-2025.
On the occasion of the anniversary ceremony, Ambassador Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, presented state decorations for outstanding contribution to the Polish-Cypriot cooperation in the field of archaeology.
