Communication – travel medical insurance for foreigners (new regulations)

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia informs that as of December 1st, 2020, the conditions to be met by travel medical insurance for foreigners applying for a national visa have changed.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia informs that as of December 1st, 2020, the conditions for travel medical insurance for foreigners applying for a national visa have changed.

Travel medical insurance meets the new requirements if:

- it provides for the insurer's liability with the minimum coverage of 30.000,- EUR;

- it is valid for the entire duration of foreigner’s planned stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland;

- it covers all expenses that may arise during the foreigner's stay in Poland in connection with a return travel necessary for medical reasons, urgent medical assistance, emergency hospital treatment or death;

and the insurer:

- undertakes to cover all costs of health services directly to the entity providing these services, on the basis of an invoice issued by this entity;

- provides a 24/7 Assistance Provision Centre (Call Centre) receiving reports on insurance cases falling under the insurer's liability.

If the insurer has no registered office or branch (as defined in the Art. 3 point 4 of the Act of March 6th, 2018 on the rules of participation of foreign entrepreneurs and other foreign persons in economic trade on the territory of the Republic of Poland) in an EU Member State, EFTA Member State – a party to the EEA Agreement or in Switzerland, it has to meet additional conditions, i.e .:

- publish the results of the audit of its activities; the audit should be performed by a recognized international audit entity and indicate the actual possibility of satisfying claims of entities providing health services on the territory of the Republic of Poland;

- publish (at least every six months) data on the amount of premiums collected and the amount of payments in a given type of insurance.
