Consultations between the Polish and the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU Teams and the EU Civil Dialogue meeting.

Poland and Cyprus are part of the same Trio of Presidencies, with Poland that has already completed its mission in June 2025 and Cyprus starting in January 2026.

Presidency Consultations

On 9 October, the experts from Poland and Cyprus met in the premises of the Press Information Office and the Secretariat for the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026. The Undersecretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Ms.  Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka together with her collaborators responsible for the various organisational aspects of implementation of the Presidency, such as high-level meetings, protocol and logistics issues, as well as communication, shared their experience.

Later that day, a Civil Dialogue meeting in the premises of the EU House was organised by the Centre of Excellence for the Rule of Law and European Values at the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus), Oxygen for Democracy and the Centre for the Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology (CARDET), together with the Embassy of Poland in Cyprus to discuss the role of Presidency of the Council of the European Union, to present the take aways of the Polish EU Presidency, and to draw inspiration and lessons in the run up to the Cyprus EU Presidency. The Director of the Office for the Polish Presidency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Magdalena Bogdziewicz, and the Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Marek Szczepanowski, presented the challenges and outcomes of the Polish Presidency which was carried out under the “Security, Europe” motto and answered the questions from the audience.

The event was attended by students, academics, representatives of civil society organisations, and citizens interested in the work and impact of the European Union. Topics such as militarisation of Europe, instrumentalization of migration, misinformation, involvement of young people, were discussed.

 Professor Stephanie Laulhe-Shaelou, Director of CroLEV,  Dr. Nicholas Kyriakides, Vice-President of Oxygen for Democracy, and Ms Fotini Socratous, Project Manager from Center for the Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology, presented conclusions and recommendations.
