First day of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Poland with Spouse to the Republic of Cyprus

On October 7-8, the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda and Mrs Agata Kornhauser-Duda, pay an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus.

The visit started with an official welcoming ceremony in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. Polish Presidential Couple was greeted by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades and his Spouse, Mrs Andri Anastasiadou. President Duda laid a wreath at the monument of the first president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III.

After the meeting of the presidential couples, talks between the heads of states began in a face-to-face format, followed by the plenary session of the delegations.

When consultations came to an end, three documents were officially signed in the presence of the presidents:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus on political consultations;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Republic of Cyprus on cybersecurity and cyber cooperation;
  • Programme of Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus in the fields of science, education, culture, sport and youth for the years 2021-2025.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda, met with the Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Ms Elizabeth Spehar.

The next item on the agenda was the meeting of the Presidential Couple with representatives of the Polish community in Cyprus. The President presented orders and state decorations for contribution to the promotion and dissemination of Polish culture in Cyprus, as well as to  long-time employees of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia. Earlier, the Fist Lady, Mrs Agata Kornhauser-Duda, met with teachers of Polish schools in Cyprus.

The first day of the visit was concluded with an official dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades with his Spouse, in honor of the Polish Presidential Couple.
