Official opening of the exhibition "Mom, I don't want war!"

The event took place on 12 th of September at the CVAR Museum in Nicosia.
Upon the invitation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Mrs Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn and the Ambassador of Ukraine, Mr Ruslan Nimchynskyi, the event was attended by the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus - Ms Annita Demetriou, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth - Mr Prodromos Prodromou, Chief of the Cypriot National Guard - General Demokritos Zervakis, Deputy Minister of Culture – Mr Yiannis Toumazis, Mayor of Nicosia – Mr Constantinos Yiorkadjis and other representatives of the Cypriot authorities, as well as local cultural, scientific and media circles. At the opening most of the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Cyprus were also present.
In their speeches, Ambassador Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn and Ambassador Ruslan Nimchynskyi evoked the theme of the exhibition and called for further solidarity with the fighting Ukraine. They emphasized that only a resolute attitude and solidarity of the international community could end the bloodshed and suffering of the defenceless civilians, especially children.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms Annita Demetriou recalled the memories of her visit to Poland at the end of April upon the invitation of the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, Ms Elżbieta Witek, during which, together with other chairwomen of parliaments, she could learn about the situation of Ukrainian refugees in our country. Ms Demetriou expressed the appreciation to the Polish authorities, non-governmental organizations and hundreds of thousands of Poles for their help offered to people forced to leave Ukraine due to Russian aggression.
The exhibition will be open for the public until September 17 at the CVAR headquarters (Centre of Visual Arts and Research, 285 Ermou Street, 1017 Nicosia) from 9:30 to 17:00.
